6 Things Millennials Need to Stop Wasting Money On

Do you have a spending problem?

1. Booze

Stop spending so much money at bars. Easier said than done, to be sure. Us young folk spend a lot of money on booze. For most of us, it’s pretty much the biggest expense after apartment or car. Save some money kids, drink at home.

2. Coffee

Buying expensive coffee doesn’t make you interesting, but it does make you wasteful. Those four and five dollar cups of coffee add up quickly. Make coffee at home in the morning – you’ll not only save yourself some money but you will also have to deal with fewer hipsters so early in the day. That, my friends, is what we call a win-win.

3. Cable subscription

If this is how you watch TV, then you are either very old or very wasteful. Cable subscriptions are for old people. At this point there are actually too many cable alternatives: Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime, HBO Now, Sling TV, and YouTube Red just to name a few. You could literally subscribe to all of them and it would still be cheaper than a cable subscription.

4. Eating out

This is a big one for many of us. It’s easy to get caught up, trying to keep up with your friends who seem to always be going to fancy, expensive restaurants. But here is the thing about your friends, either they have rich parents who are incapable of saying no or they are very wasteful – either way your friends are assholes. Skip a few fancy meals, and make more meals at home.

5. Uber

Okay, first off – Uber is probably the greatest invention ever. That being said, it’s easy to get carried away because of how convenient it is and those quick trips in the Honda Civic can add up. So limit yourself to just using Uber when you are drunk and need a ride home. And the good news is that you will be saving double because you’re doing your drinking at home now.

6. Online shopping

First it was free two day shipping, then Sunday delivery and now one-hour delivery, Amazon is well on its way to taking over the world one convenient parcel delivery at a time. But while Jeff Bezos is getting rich selling you fondue sets and foe down comforters, you are headed to the poor house. Instead of compulsively ordering stuff on Amazon, use online shopping as a way to save money on things you need.
